Recently Ewan Grant sponsored by Petrex Developments took part in the Bling Blazer 10km Obstacle Course Race at Armadale, West Lothian on what turned out to be a very warm and sunny day.
Ewan didn’t just take part, he stormed it, finishing in the extremely respectable place of 10th overall out of the 500 competitors.
The Bling Blazer is certainly not for the faint hearted, the first 3km is a leg sapping run around an old industrial yard with numerous ‘bings’ and a few obstacles thrown in such as..
The most classic of obstacles, the 8ft wall, designed to slow you down and promote team work or..
The obstacle course racers dream; continuously watered to maintain speed and at the bottom a lovely muddy pool of water.
From there it was an approx. 3.5km run along a cycle path beside a railway line which is relatively flat and allows for making up some lost time from negotiating the obstacles at the start. Upon arrival at the far end of the course, you are greeted with a few more obstacles, firstly a climb over a flat-bed lorry then onto the biggest and best obstacle on the course, a huge scaffold structure that involves a huge climb up, firstly an 8 foot wall, then a 5 foot climb up scaffold then a 4 foot wall then back down with a 4 foot jump, ladders then a pole to slide down. Then back along the side of the obstacles with 15 meters of monkey bars. The longest monkey bars Ewan has ever done! Then after being shot at by crack shot paint ballers there is the same 3.5km run back to the end where you have to negotiate a waist deep cold water pool before getting covered in dry paint dust just before the finish line where you are cheered across by the great crowd of spectators.
